ANDDD WE BACK!
Whew. Y’all. Until June 30th, I’m taking you behind the scenes of Salt in the Sugar—a play I wrote and submitted to a local theatre festival.
Why? Because I need a distraction from obsessively checking my email 😅
But also because I want to showcase the creative process I’ll have to lean into if (when!) I’m selected.
6. More. Days.
That’s all that’s left until we hear back. And let me tell you—it’s a weird waiting game. Right now, I’m working at a summer camp for the week. And not just any camp—one focused on the arts. I'm helping kids use their creativity to connect with their community.
Wild, how does life line up like that? Huh?
Watching these kids create without fear reminded me of something deep. When we're young, we think our artwork is the whole world, that the approval of a teacher, a parent, or a peer makes or breaks the piece. We crave the gold star, the “good job, " “good noodle,” the validation.
And sometimes, that follows us into adulthood. I won’t lie—I'm hoping for that “yes” email from the festival. But this week reminded me that Salt in the Sugar is already doing what it was made to do: reach people. Heal folks. Shake up the room. Make us laugh and cry and feel seen.
And this week with the kiddos reminded me that creating from a place of love, of joy, of obedience to God—that’s what matters most.
Following the Lord, trusting where He’s placed me, and finding my identity in Christ… it’s teaching me to be more childlike in the best way. Unafraid. Open. Expectant.
